The pardoner's tale is set as an old and modern tale. The characters from the pardoner's tale

Example; pardoner a Latin speaker from Italy who pardons to get money is the narrator in this story.
Latin was mainly spoken in the 4th century but the story is not based on things that happen in the 4th century.

Before Dick and Harry drink the poisoned beer the reader thinks that they will get all the gold.

When they go looking for death and find an old man this makes the reader anxious and ask questions

like; "what was the old man doing there, Was the old man following them or did he know that they wanted death"

After Tom,Dick and Harry ask the old man where death is the reader asks him/herself questions like "how does he know where death is"

• Outcomes 

Tom dick and Harry surely found death since they died "Think also on your sins, your gluttony, your lechery! Are you seeking Death like Tom,Dick and Harry? Or are you seeking life? Are you coming back to the light? Are you going to rise again?" As the pardoner says at the end of the tale.

Q. Did the children mean to leave Margot in the closet, or did they only forget about her in their excitement? Use evidence from the story to support your point of view.

They only left Margot in there because they forgot about her in their happiness because when the sun has gone away then they remember about Margot and are ashamed that they left her in there when the sun came out in the last 7 years. "They stood as if someone had driven them, like so many stakes, into the floor. They looked at each other and then looked away: They glanced out at the world that was raining now and raining and raining steadily. They could not meet each other’s glances. Their faces were solemn and pale."This quote shows that they are ashamed and can't look at each others eyes. This shows that they understand that the sun meant much more to her than to them and they had taken it away from her.

• He is described as a selfish clockwork-maker.
• He thinks that none of his ideas on what to make for the clock tower were good.

• Karl is a foil because he is in the same situation as Gretl but makes different decisions.example: he has to chose whether to do something good or bad.
• In the end of the story Karl dies.

• She is described as a young and helpful girl.

• He is described as a good but afraid writer
• He thinks that his story needs to be perfect from the start to the end.
• He acts very scared and amazed.
• He he becomes crazier as the story goes.
• He is a foil because he is in the same situation as Gretl but makes different decisions. example: he has to choose between good and bad.
• In the end he moves to another part of Germany.

3)pg16: by saying artistic temperament he means does not get on with the job and fusses about it. That it is not important and is a bit pointless, because of how he writes the rest of the chapter like it is nonsense and says"artistic temperament what nonsense there is no such thing  Only amateurs have temperaments. Real artists get on with the job and don't fuss about it."

4)pg49: Princess Mariposa stood at the palace window, she heard the chiming of the cathedral clock, and said “I wish I had a child as sound as a bell and as true as a clock”, and when she had said those words she felt her heart lift.

• as true as a clock Is a simile because it uses the word "as" and compares two things.
• She felt her heart lift her heart didn't really lift or she won't be alive.

This is suspense because  we don't know if the teacher will there in time.

Again this is suspense because you don't understand why it is silent. 

Coming of Age:

"They could not meet each other’s glances. Their faces were solemn and pale."

This is coming of age because they could not meet each other's glasses because they had realized what they had done wrong.
"Margot stood apart from them, from these children who could never remember a time when there wasn't rain and rain and rain"
This is coming of age because she was different but at the end the other realized that she was not so different and how cruel they were

This is sci-fi because it is impossible and unreasonable to live in Venus.
"It had been raining for seven years"
This is sci-fi because it is impossible for it to rain for seven years.
